The symposium will be held at Arid Forest Research Institute (AFRI), Jodhpur. The institute has a mandate to work towards finding solutions to the problems of the deserts through applied forestry research. The institute is situated in the city of Jodhpur which has it's own eternal charm. AFRI is situated on the Jodhpur-Pali highway (NH 65), about 8 km from the railway station and 5 Km from the airport, and has all the necessary facilities, including guest house with 40 rooms; scientist hostel, seminar and conference halls with multimedia facilities.

 Jodhpur city and its climate 

 Set at the edge of the Thar desert, the royal city of Jodhpur, the second largest city of India's largest state of Rajasthan, echoes with tales of antiquity in the emptiness of the desert. Founded in 1459 AD, this magnificent city is also known as Blue city and Sun city. Besides fascinating Umaid Palace and massive 15 century Mehrangarh Fort, the city is famous for its touristic beauty, handicraft items, Rajasthani dresses and traditional Rajasthani cuisine. The weather during February is normally pleasant, temperature ranging between 25o-28oC during day times. Nights may be colder sometimes requiring light woolen clothing.

 How to reach Jodhpur 

The city is well connected with the rest of the country and may be easily reached through air, rail and road. The city is 626 km from India's capital, New Delhi and 353 km from Jaipur, the capital of the state of Rajasthan. 

 By Air 
The Jodhpur city is well connected by air with important metropolitan cities of the country through daily flights aboard Indian Airlines.

 By Rail 
The city of Jodhpur is connected through rail with most of the important cities of India like Delhi, Jaipur, Mumbai, Ahmedabad etc. Jodhpur falls under the North-Western division of Indian Railways.

 By Road 
National Highway number 8 reaches Jodhpur from New Delhi via Gurgaon, Jaipur, Ajmer, Beawar and Pali. Regular bus service is being offered between Jodhpur and major cities of India by the Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation (RSRTC) as well as Private carriers. Moreover, car taxi services are easily available.
